BP-1 is a cross between Polka and Tulameen, developed by the Berry Plant Company in Italy. The fruit is very high quality, lighter in color than Polka and excellent flavor attributed to the Tulameen parent. Plants are moderately vigorous, producing tall, upright canes. It has a higher yield than Polka. BP-1 is a primocane variety, but a floricane crop can also be harvested. The primocane crop is approximately at the same time as Caroline. The floricane crop is considered early. We highly recommend the BP-1 variety when production and berry quality is required. BP-1 is licensed exclusively to Nourse Farms, Inc., for North America.

Reviews

This is my 3rd season with BP1 which I bought from you. I'm so disappointed in this cultivar, well actually I'm disappointed that you have it listed as a raspberry to grow in Zone 4. Every year 80% of the berries never have a chance to mature and ripen to red. The early frosts of zone 4A stop all growth. I've put so much time, money, and effort into growing two fifty-foot rows of BP1 and then I have to watch all those unripened berries turn to crap. Is there any way to speed up the ripening process of the fall crop? I sure hope so because these are the biggest and best berries I've ever eaten and it makes me sick to watch most of the crop fail. Help me Nourse Farms!

I bought 5 of these 8 years ago. They grow vigorously in my full sun garden with a nice compost mixture in the soil. I’ve dug up and gifted various shoots. Heaping bowls of berries in summer and fall. Some are massive. This year I started a new area with 40 new bushes to start from these original 5.

Great flavor. Great vigor. Great productivity. The BP-1s grew from bare roots to full canes through a severe heatwave and drought and produced large numbers of large berries with high sugar, low acid, and good flavor. They continued producing later than any of my other raspberries (though Double Gold was nearly as late). When I present mixed berries to friends and relatives they consistently identify the BP-1 by flavor and praise them. They have become my favorite red raspberry.

I bought 25 plants in June of 2020. Nourse was basically out of everything and BP-1 was not even on my list of choices. But it was all they had left so i ordered 25 plants. They warned me that COVID19 panic buying had wiped them out and what was left was not in great shape.

Got the plants in about a week and they looked bad. Planted the 20 or so that looked alive in one of our high tunnels ASAP. over the summer they looked worse and worse. Most died, but a few did not and produced a small crop of berries that fall.

The spring of 2021 4 plants came back and by late June were over 7' tall, took over the center of the high tunnel and have been full of flowers that have turned into huge incredible tasting fruit. And those 4 plants, that i have renamed The Monster Berries, have been producing big harvests of the best tasting raspberries i have ever eaten. They have pretty much sold themselves all summer and fall.

I would love to have a high tunnel full of Monster berries, these are the best but deserve a better name than BP-1

Fabulous berries and incredibly heat resistant!!!!
I grow a home garden with 2 45 rows . My berries not only survived but thrived in the 110 heat wave that we experienced here in in Seattle . My Anne and prelude experienced catastrophic damage but not BP 1.

Toronto, Ohio - I bought 5 BP-1 plants this spring (2020). I planted them per the planting/care guide that came with them (very detailed guide that I am thankful for). I am surprised at how much they’ve grown already since planting. There are berries on 2 of the 5 plants. I can’t wait to taste them and give an updated review next season.
Excited to purchase from Nourse Farms again!
