Caddo is the latest in a series of erect-growing, high quality, productive floricane-fruiting black berry cultivars intended for fresh market use by John Clark at the University of Arkansas. “It has overall high fruit quality, excellent postharvest fruit-handling potential, consistent high yields and excellent plant health,” Clark says. Early results show Caddo ripening between Natchez and Osage, with comparable yields to Osage and Ouachita. Size has been larger than both Osage and Ouachita, holding size through the harvest season. We highly recommend growers trial this new and interesting variety. Hardiness is anticipated in zones 5–9.

Reviews

I originally came back to write a review with picturesque images of my ripening berries. This variety is amazing - HUGE berries (consistently as big as my thumb, maybe a bit plumper). I only planted last year and have already harvested about a kg in the first two weeks.

Plants started flowering in early June, and the birds picked off the first reddening berries. After netting them, I finally started being able to pick my own. One recommendation is to tip them the year before. Of the 10 plants I planted, only the 5 plants whose tips accidentally met the lawnmower last year are fruiting profusely.

I'm looking forward to next year, as this years primocanes are growing to 7'-8' (although I've been clipping them around 6'). First year after planting, the canes were only partially erect, but this years canes are much sturdier and robust.

I'm very excited for next year - I'm getting a good harvest in my first harvest year, but it's clear that next year will be something like 2-4x more than this year!

I purchased 5 Caddo plugs last year. They grew beautifully and I got enough blackberries to sample what I have to look forward to this year. They taste sweet, are juicy and large! Mine are not erect but semi-erect so I have to tie canes to the trellis to keep them off the ground but since they are thornless it's not a deal breaker. Other than that they are a great berry to have.

Purchased Ponca, Caddo, and Ouachita plugs last year for planting in North Atlanta metro. All three grew extremely well last year and fruited beyond our expectations this year. We were counting harvest in the pounds not pints. The Caddo plants were the most vigorous canes of the three and had the biggest berries. It's the best blackberry variety I've ever seen.

Beautiful plugs, healthy, dark-green, vibrant and lively. Extremely high quality (control). Obviously a well managed nursery. We had an issue. Customer service and support turned out to be as excellent as the plants we received.
