I have been trying to grow rhubarb in the North Carolina Piedmont off and on for the 37 years that I have lived here. I ordered MacDonald because it is resistant to crown rot and 6 crowns in case some of them succumbed. I planted them several days after they arrived, and I was worried about that because they were forming leaves in the bag, but they have not missed a beat. These are the strongest, healthiest rhubarb crowns (now plants) I have ever planted. All 6 are growing vigorously and are beautiful. I can already taste the pie i'll eat next year.

I planted three crowns a little late at the end of May. Sporadic watering and they put out leaves. The August Monsoon season brought us 5.5" of rain, and these exploded. Very pleased with vigor and flavor of small sample spear. Excellent plants. Poor early performance purely human gardener's fault!
