This is one of several newer elderberry varieties from Denmark. Plants are vigorous, producing long shoots from soil level one growing season and bearing fruit the next. These are removed after bearing and replaced by the current year's growth. This makes the plant easy to prune and manage as a bush. Large fruit clusters with good flavor ripen in August each year. Berries have very high anthocyanin content—very good for you! This is the more productive variety, but both varieties are required for cross pollination in a ratio of 1 Samyl : 5 Samdal.

I have grown multiple varieties of Elderberries in Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Reno Nevada.
Samdal and Samyl are the most vigorous vegetatively. Lots of flowers but no more than the other varieties.
Samdal and Samyl berries often ripen so unevenly that they are not worth picking. The berry clusters are large, but
often the first ripening berries in a cluster are way past prime before the later berries ripen. These are clearly the least desirable variety
unless you want only flowers.

Recieved these as dormant bare roots. By the end of the first growing season all 3 and one samyl were well over 6 feet tall with one producing fruit. Will order again no questions asked

Outstanding quality on their plants! Come with an amazing root system very well established so full and fibrous, just excellent will definitely be choosing Nourse for more of my planting needs.
